The Cochrane Library - evidence-based medicine database of peer-reviewed meta-analyses of published clinical trials. (User name and password NOT needed -- just click on the enter button; access based on IP address.)

American Academy of Pediatrics Red Book Online - The report of the AAP's Committee on Infectious Diseases provides information on the manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of some 200 childhood infectious diseases, with over 1300 images.

Medline Search Assistant - For help with literature searches in WebSPIRS Medline.

The following are good sources of background information:

Scientific American Medicine - online version covers the 15 subspecialties of internal medicine and includes excellent graphics and illustrations (IP based subscription, click on sign in button to access)

eMedicine - Consists of 62 specialty texts with over 7,000 disease-specific topics. Each topic is peer-reviewed by four MDs and a Pharm D. The content is created and maintained by approximately 8,000 contributing physicians.

Micromedex - provides a wide range of databases tailored to meet the needs of healthcare professionals, including information related to drugs, acute care, toxicology, and patient education.

Harrison's Online - includes the full text of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine (IP subscription, click on subscriber login button to access)

The National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC)

The NGC is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP). http://www.guidelines.gov/
Bandolier
Bandolier is a print and Internet journal about health care, using evidence-based medicine techniques to provide advice about particular treatments or diseases for healthcare professionals and consumers. The content is 'tertiary' publishing, distilling the information from (secondary) reviews of (primary) trials and making it comprehensible. http://www.jr2.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/index.html

DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects)
DARE is a database of quality assessed reviews and is one of the databases on the Cochrane Library. If you have searched the Cochrane Library, records from DARE will be included in your search results automatically. DARE is updated monthly and can also be searched via the Internet: users should be aware that the online version of DARE will always have more information than the The Cochrane Library version. The Internet version of the DARE database also contains "flag" records with abstracts of Cochrane reviews and protocols, and brief records noting those Cochrane reviews published elsewhere, such as in academic journals. http://nhscrd.york.ac.uk/darehp.htm
