 Clinical Pharmacology

  • Clinical Pharmacology (use restricted to the School of Pharmacy or in the Health Sciences Library) is a drug information application that provides peer reviewed, clinically-relevant information on drugs available in the United States, including off-label uses and dosages, herbal supplements, nutritional products, and new and investigational drugs.

 The Medical Letter

  • The Medical Letter is an independent, peer-reviewed, nonprofit publication that offers unbiased critical evaluations of drugs, with special emphasis on new drugs, to physicians and other members of the health professions. It evaluates virtually all new drugs and reviews older drugs when important new information becomes available on their usefulness or adverse effects.

The FDA "Orange Book" Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations

  • The publication, Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations, identifies drug products approved on the basis of safety and effectiveness by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act).  Drugs on the market approved only on the basis of safety,  review,  or pre-1938 drugs are not included in this publication.

  • Each of the Consumer Drug Information Sheets posted on this site provides basic information about medications recently approved by the FDA.

 Micromedex Care Notes

  • A very comprehensive computerized drug resource in monograph format.  (restricted to Creighton University faculty, staff and students).
  • Patient Education Materials are included:  Patient Education Documents and Drug Leaflets Documents
  • Available in both English and Spanish.
  • Written at a 4th to 6th grade reading level.
  • Drug Leaflets documents are patient-oriented overviews of the most frequently prescribed drugs.
  • Link to the patient education section.

         > Diseases or conditions may be searched by name or browsed
             via the search by category function.

 King Guide

  • The King Guide to Parenteral Admixtures provides over 400 drug IV monographs which are updated quarterly. The monographs are fully referenced with primary sources.
    • To login click on subscriber login at top left of page; then enter the user ID and password from the login information page.

 Handbook on Injectable Drugs (Trissel's Handbook)

  • The Handbook on Injectable Drugs provides information on stability and compatibility of injectable drug products. Included are monographs on more than 300 commercial drugs used in admixtures and important information on investigational drugs.

  • Available as part of Drug Information Fulltext - a full text database that combines the contents of two major publications: Trissel's Handbook on Injectable Drugs and The AHFS Drug Information handbook. To retrieve the monograph for a particular drug, restrict the generic drug name to the monograph title. For example: erythromycin in mt. View a record by clicking the Table of Contents link at the bottom of the record.

 Martindale: The Complete Drug Reference

  • The Martindale database contains information on drugs in clinical use worldwide, as well as selected investigational and veterinary drugs, herbal medicines, pharmaceutical excipients, vitamins and nutritional agents, vaccines, radiopharmaceuticals, contrast media and diagnostic agents, medicinal gases, drugs of abuse and recreational drugs, toxic substances, disinfectants, and pesticides.
  • Preparations summaries of more than 70,000 proprietary products from 17 countries are included. Information is provided on brand name, manufacturer, country of origin, active constituents, and licensed uses. Cross-references link each ingredient to an appropriate drug monograph when possible.
  • Martindale is available as part of the Micromedex system. To search Martindale specifically, click on the Search by database link on the opening screen.
